I immigrated to Canada from Nigeria when I was 22 for my master's degree and started working right after graduating. I had thought about starting my own clothing brand for years, so I started working on ideas for that too. One of the biggest things I'm taking away from this sabbatical is realizing that a lot of things are not that serious. I've never been this happy, and I'm the most broke I've ever been. “The Breakfast Club” reaches nearly six million people every month on the radio. Then there’s the YouTube channel, the podcast and the clips from interviews on the show that regularly go viral. While the show often hosts rappers and other celebrities on its four-hour chat-fest, it has also become an important stop for politicians who want to reach Charlamagne’s largely Black audience. Now, four years later, things have changed for the host, and perhaps for some of his listeners. (Also inspiring those questions: His recent friendly interview with the right-wing personality Candace Owens.)

PinnedTo its millions of devoted fans, the Eurovision Song Contest is a cultural juggernaut, an exciting competition in which singers and rappers represent their countries and perform for votes. To more casual observers, it’s simply a fun, camp — and often bewildering — night of TV, with extravagant songs and outrageous outfits. This year, as always, the contest features songs that range from the sublime to the ridiculous. Eden Golan, a 20-year-old pop star, will represent Israel with “Hurricane,” a ballad that obliquely references Israeli grief over the Oct. 7 attacks last year. Will Golan win over the audience and the tens of millions watching live on TV and YouTube?

But seriously folks ... it's just an iPad ad. AdvertisementThere's been a huge backlash to the ad Apple put out this week to promote its updated iPads. “I hope you fall in love, I hope it breaks your heart” is the refrain (in English translation) of “Pasoori,” Ali Sethi’s 2022 global hit. The song, performed as a duet with the Pakistani singer Shae Gill, defies such simple classifications — it’s a pop banger sung in Urdu and Punjabi, punctuated with flamenco handclaps and driven by a reggaeton beat. It’s now been viewed some 850 million times on YouTube, including by countless Indian fans. Sethi, 39, is a master of microtonal singing, gliding between the notes of the Western tempered scale. In 2009, he published “The Wish Maker,” a semiautobiographical coming-of-age novel set in his home city.

New York CNN —Big Tech is racing to address the stream of A.I.-generated images inundating social media platforms before the machine-crafted renderings further contaminate the information space. TikTok announced on Thursday that it will begin labeling A.I.-generated content. (Notably, Elon Musk’s X has not announced any plans to label A.I.-generated content.) Social media giants have reams of rules prohibiting certain content on their platforms, but history has repeatedly shown that they have often failed to adequately enforce them and allowed malicious content to spread to the masses before taking action. That poor record doesn’t inspire much confidence as A.I.-created images increasingly bombard the information environment — particularly as the U.S. hurtles toward an unprecedented election with democracy itself at stake.
